Disability Rights and Contemporary Challenges

Queen’s at The Planetarium

Saturday 12 September, Armagh Planetarium, 11:30 am.

 

Enjoy a fun day out at the Armagh Planetarium. Professor Alan Fitzsimmons, an astronomer from the School of Maths and Physics, will give a fascinating insight into Queen�s research and recent exciting discoveries.

In addition, guests will enjoy a digital theatre show, rocket making, face painting and more.  This event is designed for Queen�s graduates with families of school age.  Please note the Development and Alumni Relations Office have limited spaces available and places will be allocated on a �first come, first served� basis.  A booking form is available on request.

Planning Together: Policies and Participation in Ageing Societies

Dead Man Walking

Tuesday 22 September – Thursday 24 September, Brian Friel Theatre (QFT) 20 University Square, 7:00 pm.

 

This is a new performance coming out of an interdisciplinary project put together by Anna Newell , CETL Artistic Director and Dr Melissa McCullough, School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences.

The experimental performance piece will use the idea of body donation to medical science as its initial stimulus. It will be created by a group of medical students, a group of drama students, a theatre director, a choreographer and a medical ethicist during the 10 days prior to the first performance.

Food Safety, Traceability and Authencity: Opportunities and Challenges for the Agri-Food Industries

Interdisciplinary Symposium ‘Music without Walls? Source Studies in the 21st Century’

Thursday 17 December, School of Music and Sonic Arts (Music Building), 9:00 am.

The symposium �Music without Walls?� is being held to coincide with the twentieth anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall and to celebrate subsequent developments in music source studies. The aims of this interdisciplinary symposium are to present and contextualize recent findings and to discuss how new technologies may facilitate and enhance our understanding of this.

14th Biennial International Conference on Baroque Music

Wednesday 30 June – Sunday 04 July, School of Music and Sonic Arts, Music Building, 12:00 am.

The theme of the conference BACH has been inspired by the symbolism of ‘14′, Bach’s nu-meric signature, and will commemorate the anniversaries of the deaths of Johann Sebastian (260th), Anna Magdalena (250th) and Maria Barbara (290th), as well as the 300th birthday of Wilhelm Friedemann.  Participants may wish to incorporate the theme, but proposals in any area of Baroque music are welcome.  Deadline for receipt of abstracts is 15 January 2010.
